SUMMARY:At age eighty-five, Bill Traylor has lived an eventful life. He was born a slave, and then he became free after the Civil War. He spent many years as a farmer and married a woman, raised a family, and watched his children grow into adults. The memories of his life are too big for him, and he has to find a way to express them, so he begins put them into drawings and paintings, and in doing so, shares his life experience with the world.
